Future Ready Five Focuses on Early Childhood Education

Future Ready Five, a pioneering initiative in Central Ohio, focuses on enhancing early childhood education through a collaborative impact measurement platform. Partnering with SureImpact, Future Ready Five implements early childhood learning screeners in preschools to drive targeted interventions and track improvements in children’s readiness for kindergarten at individual, classroom, school, and city-wide levels. Future Ready Five also provides professional development so teachers can use these screeners. Their approach is notably inclusive, emphasizing a race and ethnicity lens to ensure equitable educational outcomes. This was especially important due to kindergarten readiness scores being even more critical for their Black and Latinx communities.  


Utilizing comprehensive early childhood assessments, Future Ready Five evaluates key predictors of school success in children aged 3 to 5. These screeners cover physical development, language development, literacy, academic skills/cognitive development, and self-help and social-emotional skills. By uploading extensive measures into the SureImpact platform, Future Ready Five can effectively monitor and enhance these critical areas of development. Megan Hamilton, Senior Project Manager at Future Ready Five shared, “Collecting data and making data-driven decisions are crucial to supporting our most vulnerable learners.”


As a result of this innovative approach, children who participated in Future Ready Five’s programs demonstrated significant improvements in school readiness, including enhanced language and cognitive skills and increased literacy competencies. These improvements translate to a more prepared and confident entry into kindergarten, setting a strong foundation for future academic success.


The collaboration between Future Ready Five and SureImpact has highlighted alarming trends in kindergarten readiness in Central Ohio, as noted in recent press coverage. However, it has also showcased the power of data-driven interventions in reversing these trends and achieving better educational outcomes for all children.
